Local Business Owner Elected to Lead State’s Largest Local Chamber of Commerce

Paul J. Bury, III, P.E., CEO and Founder of Bury+Partners, Inc. was unanimously elected to serve as the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Chair-Elect and succeed Joe Holt, Chairman, Austin Region JPMorgan Chase Bank as Chairman in 2009.

“It has been more than decade since a founder of a locally owned business with more than 400 employees has lead the Greater Austin Chamber,” said Roger Mitchell, President of Texas Gas, and 2007 Chamber Chair. “Paul has provided key leadership to the Chamber over the past many years having served as Co-Chair of Economic Development, and on the Boards of the Chamber and the Economic Development Corporation Board, better known as Opportunity Austin.”

Bury+Partners is a diversified engineering and consulting firm headquartered in Austin with additional Texas offices in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio , and Temple as well as offices in Fairfax and Williamsburg, Virginia. The firm has received numerous national recognitions including Top 200 Engineering Firms and named Top 50 Places to Work by CE News. Bury received the W. Neal Kocurek Lifetime Achievement Award by the Real Estate Council of Austin and was named the Volunteer of the Year in Economic Development by the Chamber in 2006.

“Paul literally began his business in a garage,” said Joe Holt, 2008 Chamber Chair. “He knows what it means to lay awake at night wondering if the business will be successful and meet its ongoing payroll. This is an individual that relates well to a majority of the Chamber’s membership having been there and done that in growing a business.”

Bury is a native of San Antonio and received his Civil Engineering degree from Texas A&M University. In addition to serving on a number of local business boards including Frost Bank, Bury has been active in several local organizations including KLRU, Nature Conservancy of Austin, Hill Country Conservancy, and St. Andrews Episcopal School. Mr. Bury resides in Austin with his wife, Tracey, and two daughters, Merritt and Emily.

The Austin Chamber is the pre-eminent business organization in Central Texas, with more than 2,700 business members in five counties.
