Greater Austin Chamber Board Announces Support of Austin Bond Propositions

The Greater Austin Chamber Board of Directors unanimously voted on September 28 to support all seven City of Austin bond propositions that will appear on the November 7, 2006 ballot. The bond propositions include:

  • Prop 1: Transportation - $103.1 million
    • Street construction, traffic signals, sidewalks and bikeways
  • Prop 2: Drainage & Water Quality - $145 million
    • Watershed Protection Master Plan implementation
    • Open space acquisition
  • Prop 3: Parks Facilities & Parkland - $84.7 million
    • Renovations and improvements, new facilities, parkland acquisition
  • Prop 4: Community & Cultural Facilities - $31.5 million
    • Includes Zachary Scott Theatre, African American Heritage and Cultural Facility, Asian American Resource Center, Austin Film Studios, Mexican American Cultural Center and Mexic-Arte Museum
  • Prop 5: Affordable Housing - $55 million
    • Rental housing development program
    • Home ownership program
  • Prop 6: Central Library - $90 million
  • Prop 7: Public Safety Facilities - $58.1 million
    • Includes joint training facility, Police Northeast substation, additional EMS station, Municipal courthouse and animal shelter

The Greater Austin Chamber endorses bond projects that enhance the quality of life in Central Texas, improves transportation mobility and strengthens the region’s economic development capabilities and competitiveness.

“By authorizing these bonds, Austin residents will wisely spend funds in many needed areas of our community,” said Tim Crowley, Chairman of the Greater Austin Chamber and President-Austin Community Banking Group, Frost Bank. “We will improve our city’s infrastructure, improve our parks, and provide for greater safety for our citizens.”

Early voting for the election begins on Monday, October 23, and runs through Saturday, November 3.
